![]() Should you desire a NAS to sit alongside your TV and other media consumption hardware in a cabinet, the FS6706T is designed to fit right in with other set-top boxes. QNAPs TS-464 is an impressive four-bay NAS with a striking design, powerful internal specs, and IR support for a remote control. This would be a great Plex NAS if you want to opt solely for speedier storage.Īs well as supporting flash storage, the FS6706T also looks different from just about every other Asustor NAS, thanks to the ability of the company and its design team to reduce the dimensions by throwing out all 3.5-inch drive bays. So too will the dual 2.5GbE connections, but if that wasn't enough already, Asustor threw in an HDMI port for good measure. The same Intel Celeron N5105 processor found in our recommended Asustor Plex NAS pick is present, which will have ample performance for handling the available bandwidth. This NAS will only take M.2 drives and there are six bays, offering decent capacity for the price. We're not even talking 2.5-inch SSDs here either. Best four-bay: TerraMaster F4-210 ARM CPU, 4 bays, 1 GB RAM, 1 GbE. Best for Plex: QNAP TS-364 Intel CPU, 4 bays, 8 GB RAM, 2.5 GbE. Save money on your next server right here. The Asustor Flashstor 6 FS6706T is a unique enclosure to be released by the brand, as it's entirely flash-only. Heres our collection of the best cheap NAS available from top enclosure brands. A PCIe slot, 2.5GbE networking, and four M.2 slots ensure you have ample space for upgrades. 4GB of DDR4 RAM is more than enough, and it can be expanded at a later date. Best Plex Media Server NAS for Price vs Performance QNAP TVS-672X NAS. Twelve drives would allow for up to 240TB of data to be stored, not taking into account reservations for RAID. The four drive bays can be expanded through the addition of up to two AS6004U units, each rocking four bays. ![]() It has all the necessary features to handle transcoding of 4K content without breaking a sweat. This mighty four-bay enclosure has an Intel Celeron N5105 processor, which has four physical cores and the ability to burst up to speeds of 2.9GHz. An ARM processor will be able to stream media, but it'll fall short of being able to effectively transcode on the fly, which is where the ASUSTOR Lockerstor 4 Gen2 (AS6704T) comes into play. Oftentimes, the server will be the one to handle this resource-intensive task, which is why it's recommended a Plex Media Server be managed on an Intel-powered NAS. But you need Plex pass to have hardware transcoding. I have a DS416play, DS218+, and DS418+ and transcode Plex fine because they have intel CPUs that support quicksync. Should you have video files to host on Plex, it's important to consider transcoding in case the client device doesn't support the format or resolution. The best halfway well priced nases for plex are the 9 with Intel quick sync. Look for more RAM 2GB at least and if you can upgradable. The most important specification of the best NAS for Plex is the processor, especially if you plan on transcoding media. Now I am sure you can get something cheaper from terramaster or qnap that works as well. But they are much more expensive like 250-300 at least. The NAS I am sure will run it well like the DS224+ have upgradable RAM and two bays so you can use RAID in the future if you want. Again if your Plex server will get too big it will not run anymore and you can't expand it I am just too old to figure out configs and synology's software is just so much better and the CPU in this thing seems powerful enough to have Plex. Not sure about that, here is the cheapest NAS I would consider buying but its significantly more expensive than the price you want. My current Plex server has 2GB of Ram alone but to be fair I have many many thousands of videos inside. The 120j is in your price range but 512MB RAM? Not even sure it can run plex server.
